Greene field hockey advances in playoffs

GREENE - Greene reached double-digit victories, and advanced to the Section IV Class C field hockey semifinals, eliminating Newark Valley, 4-1, at Greene High School on Thursday afternoon.
The Trojans (10-6) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with Claire Flanagan and Nadia Brown tallying a pair of goals.
Brown scored her second goal of the game with 5:54 left in the second quarter to create the three-goal advantage over the Cardinals.
After Newark Valley broke the ice with a third-period goal, The Trojans’ Emma Rice sealed with the win with a fourth-quarter goal off an Olivia Kennedy pass.
Greene will host Sidney on Tuesday in the sectional semifinals.
