NORWICH — On Saturday, October 30, the Norwich Business Improvement District (B.I.D.) announced their Commitment to Community award winner.

Tyler Oliver, who has served on several community boards, ran the Norwich Pumpkin Festival, and now helps run his family business, was selected as the winner of the 2021 Commitment to the Community award.

"He was the leader of the Norwich Pumpkin Festival for years, he sat on the YMCA board, he's now sitting in with the family company. So he's moved away from the YMCA where he used to work and is now helping to run the family business," said B.I.D. Executive Committee member Mindy Chawgo. "He stayed in this community, he's raising his family in this community. He believes in buying local and shopping local, and that's a huge part of it."

Chawgo said the B.I.D. board selects the winner based on merit, as well as involvement within the Norwich community.

"The B.I.D. board picks their person that they would like to see win the Commitment to Community. And they go really on merit, how much they do in the community, the involvement like with the boards," said Chawgo. "It's not just what you do, it's how you support the community and how you spend your money, and try to cultivate this community."
