GREENE - Whitney Point defeated Greene by shutout for the third time this season capturing the Section IV Class C title on Friday night.
It was the eighth sectional championship in 12 seasons for the Golden Eagles, who will likely head into the state tournament as one of the teams to beat.
After a scoreless opening quarter, Whitney Point scored three goals within a nine-minute span.
Kaylie Lynch scored five minutes into the period, while Lana Jordan and Brenna Bough followed with the next two tallies.
Bough had single goals in the third and fourth quarters to finish with a hat trick.
"Our team played with heart and grit until the very end of the game," said Greene coach Heather Rapp. "They never let down or gave up, which speaks volumes for the character of our players. Whitney Point is an excellent team, and we wish them luck in their quest for another state championship."
