NORWICH — After nine months of campaigning, the results are in: Brian Doliver has been elected as the upcoming City of Norwich mayor, with 73.8 percent of votes.

Doliver, who has served on the Norwich Common Council as Ward 2 Alderman for eight years, said he is grateful for all the support from voters, and is excited to begin his new role on January 1.

"I'm very overwhelmed by the support and, you know, the people that came out to support me. I'd like to thank my family, mother, father, sisters, and my wife Valerie for all they did for me, and council members for their words of support," said Doliver. "I'm excited for the next part, to actually be able to get the work started now."

When his term starts, Doliver said one of the first things he would like to do as mayor is begin building relationships, and working with, nearby municipalities and their organizations.

“What I'd like to do is start reaching out to, you know, Oneonta, Oneida, some of the other communities of similar sizes to us, to see what they're doing and try to have a connection with them," he explained. "That's what I'm hoping my administration can do, start to collaborate with other organizations, businesses, other cities. So that's going to be a big part of what I'd like to do."

His opponent, John Quattrocchi, wished the new mayor well and thanked his supporters in a public Facebook post.

"I'm proud that I was able to help people register, put the word out, got people involved, asking questions and learning about the processes of local government. I'd like to thank those who supported my campaign and me through this year," said Quattrocchi. "I want to wish Brian Doliver well and hope he can come through with what Norwich needs."

Quattrocchi added that he still plans to be involved in the community and help in ways he can.

"I just plan to keep my ears open and see where I can help out," he said. "I'm just gonna take some time off at this point, it was a long year, and really just evaluate things and still be, you know, a positive member of my community."

Doliver praised and thanked his opponent for running, saying, "I'd like to thank him for running. I think it's commendable for anybody who would want to serve their community. So for him to throw his hat in the ring, I think that was commendable."

For the rest of the year, Doliver will be finishing his term as Ward 2 Alderman, and will begin his term as City of Norwich Mayor on January 1, 2021.
