Norwich volleyball advances to Class B final

ENDWELL – Norwich's volleyball team extended the best season in program history with a nearly spotless performance in the Section IV Class B semifinals Thursday at Maine-Endwell High School.
Playing two sets apiece against Maine-Endwell, Owego, and Windsor in a pool play format, the Tornado swept both sets from M-E and Windsor, and split its two sets with Owego to finish pool play at 5-1 overall.
That performance set up a finals match against Owego this Saturday at 6 p.m. at Corning High School.
Against Owego, the Indians opened with a 25-20 victory before Norwich responded with a dominated 25-13 second-set victory.
Lauren Squires had 14 kills and Madelyn Morris 14 assists against Owego.
The Tornado defeated Windsor 25-21, 25-14 with Miranda Cole serving up four aces.  Morris and Madisyn Ryan set the tone with assists combining for 15.
The scores for the Maine-Endwell match were not available.
The Purple Tornado played Owego twice in the regular season splitting the two matches with the Indians.   Owego handed Norwich an opening-match loss before Norwich avenged that defeat en route to the program's first-ever STAC division championship.
