About 10,000 homes and businesses still without power in Chenango County
CHENANGO COUNTY – According to NYSEG just under 10,000 customers in Chenango County are still without power Thursday.
The joint office of the Norwich and Chenango County Emergency Services reported, “If you have no power please recontact NYSEG at (800) 572-1131 and advise them you are still without power.”
“Also if your power has been on and goes off again, this may be due to a line crew working in your area. Line crews sometimes have to turn the power off to get lines back up. If you power is out for more then 30 minutes then contact NYSEG.”
Officials also suggested using caution when removing trees. There may be power lines hidden within the debris. If you do see power lines assume they may be live and a potential danger. Do not approach them or try to move them.
The state of emergency and travel ban became a travel advisory at 6 a.m. Thursday morning.
Chairman George Seneck said leaders decided to continued the State of Emergency and Travel Ban for Chenango County throughout Wednesday due to numerous roads being impacted by downed trees and electrical wires.
“NYSEG is currently working through the electrical restoration process to restore electricity to residents in the County. Some residents will begin to see restoration times as early as 5 p.m. tonight (Wednesday night) while others may be as late as 11 p.m. on Thursday, due to more complicated restoration efforts,” said Seneck on Wednesday.
“Some roadways will still remain closed, but the majority of our main roadways will be passible and open to public,” said Seneck. “We still encourage motorists to travel with caution as they may still encounter downed trees and power lines in some of our secondary roadways.”
