Oxford softball defeats UV/GMU

OXFORD– The Oxford Blackhawks softball team closed out its 2022 season with a 14-4 victory over the UV/GMU storm on Friday afternoon.
Ava Benjamin brought in two runs in the third inning with a single for Oxford while teammate Taegan Manwarren went 2-for-5 with an RBI double in the sixth inning. Manwarren also reached base in all five at-bats with a hit by pitch, two walks, and the two hits.
Tricia Bohannon pitched a complete game, striking out five batters. She also had some help from her defense. Catcher Madison Long along with second baseman Taegan Manwarren helped catch two UV/GMU players attempting to steal second base.
Bohannon also went 2-for-4 with a single to center in the second and a one-swing single in her next at-bat in the third inning.
For UV/GMU, Hannah Bonczkowski struck out four batters in the loss and went 3-for-4 at the plate with three singles to center field. Teammate Kailee Figger drove Bonczkowski home with an RBI triple in the seventh.
