CHENANGO COUNTY – Both the Norwich and Sherburne pony league teams suffered losses on Thursday, ending the 2022 season. Norwich lost to Delhi while Sherburne was defeated by Schenevus. From these losses, there will be no local Chenango County teams in the finals. Schenevus, both Oneonta teams, and Delhi will compete in Saturday’s semi-finals at Sherburne-Earlville Central School.
Norwich got on the board early as Kaden Downey stepped up to the plate with two men on and drove in a run. Downey finished 3-for-4 on the day with two RBIs. Anthony Pomares also drove in a run in the first inning with a blooper to center. He also had a single in the third, finishing 2-for-4. Zack Parker went 3-for-4 at the plate and scored two of Norwich’s five runs.
Delhi tied it in the third and took the lead for good after that. Norwich tried to rally in the final innings with runners on base, but could not keep up. They scored two runs in the fourth and just one run in the seventh off Colin Olds’ inside-the-park home run while Carmine Pastore got on base with a two-out single.
Congratulations to Norwich and Sherburne on a great season and enjoy the rest of your summer.
