NORWICH — The NBT Bank Free Summer Concert Series continues tonight with a performance by The Garcia Project with special guest Maria Muldaur.

Although usually held in East Park, due to the potential for heavy rain this afternoon the Chenango Blues Association has arranged for the show to be moved to the big tent at the Chenango County Fairgrounds, located at 168 East Main Street in Norwich. Parking will be available in the fairgrounds infield.

Touted as "more than just a Jerry Garcia Band tribute band or Jerry Garcia cover band," it's said The Garcia Project "faithfully channels and projects the feelings, emotions, and music that propelled the Jerry Garcia Band and their fans through many musical years of bliss."

Guest performer Maria Muldaur began sitting in with the Jerry Garcia Band in 1974, and was an official member of the band in 1977 and 1978. Recently, The Garcia Project asked her to sit in with them.

"They don't merely recreate Jerry's music, as far as I'm concerned, they are channeling it. Performing with them, I am moved and touched by how much the music moves the audience into a state of joyous community and rapture," said Muldaur. "The Garcia Project brings us all back to that special time, and I'm excited and blessed to participate in giving new and old audiences alike the chance to relive the spirit and magic of the Jerry Garcia Band."

Visitors of tonight's show can also enjoy several food and beverage vendors, including Nina's Pizzeria, Phatty's BBQ, Hubcap Munchies, Deja Brew desserts, Gilligan's Ice Cream, and Lickity Split ice cream.

With each week of summer concerts, the Chenango Blues Festival draws closer. This year's festival will take place on Friday, August 19 and Saturday, August 20 at the Chenango County Fairgrounds.

Tickets to the Chenango Blues Fest are are available now until August 11 for $35, and from August 12 through the day of the event for $45. Tickets can be purchased online at SimpleTix.com.

Tune in next week for a performance by Dixieland jazz group Blair Crimmins and the Hookers!
