GREENE – In a game that was delayed due to lightning, the Greene Trojans field hockey team lit up with five goals in the 5-2 win over Owego.
In the first quarter, McKenzie Scott found her way to the net off a pass from Payton Yahner on a penalty corner. Scott would fire off another shot that made its way in moments later. She also picked up an assist on Brooke Williams’ goal.
Owego answered back in the second half, being down 3-0, with two goals from Chelsea Rollison with assists by Carsten Crawford and Ashleigh Steele.
But as Owego crept closer, Greene did not lose its momentum. Bella Tierno got a touch on a ball that Claire Flanagan scored midway through the third quarter. Payton Yahner earned a penalty stroke with less than three minutes remaining in regulation and had luck on the left side against Owego’s Mya Lynn. Lynn made 12 saves on Greene’s 16 shots on goal in the loss.
Following the end of the game, Greene honored its six seniors. Bella Tierno, Paige Roe, Payton Yahner, Natalie Scofield, McKenzie Scott, and Emma Rice were all celebrated for their commitment and dedication to the Trojans field hockey program.
