OXFORD – The Oxford Blackhawks hosted the Unadilla Valley Storm in a rematch from early September. UV won 53-0 in the first meeting, but this time they faced a much different Oxford team.
Oxford showed that they had made major improvements on both sides of the ball, even with the 22-12 loss this time.
In the first half, the Blackhawks defense forced the Storm to punt and caused multiple turnovers on downs, including a sack made by Kaden Hufnagle with a minute to go until halftime.
But, UV did score on a punt after Oxford was pushed back to their own seven yard line. Wyatt Meade received the short punt and went in for the score. He also had a successful two-point conversion.
Meade also finished strong in the second half, leading with three touchdowns in the win.
With less than 10 minutes to go, Oxford answered back as they drove down the field and was able to convert on a fourth and five from UV’s 35 yard line. Jacob Gallo let the ball fly off a deep pass to David Tucker who caught and scored. The two-point conversion was unsuccessful and the Blackhawks were down 8-6 at halftime. Tucker scored another touchdown in the second half to lead the Blackhawks’ offense.
Both teams look ahead to the few games remaining of the 2022 season. For Oxford, they are seeking their first win of the season and look better prepared as they will host Moravia for senior night on Friday, Oct 21. For the Storm, they will be on the road against Unatego on Friday at 6 p.m.
