DELHI – On Saturday, the Oxford Blackhawks volleyball team defeated the previous reigning champions, the Unadilla Valley Storm 3-1 to win the 2022 MAC title. This was the Storm’s first loss of the season in the rematch between both teams.
Ava Benjamin led the way for Oxford with 23 assists, three aces, and two kills. Madalyn Barrows continues to step up in her senior year as she finished with 11 kills, five digs, two aces and two blocks.
Fellow senior Jadyn Ruff had a strong game with five kills, four digs, and two aces as Hailey Richardson also earned four digs with Anaiya Davis contributing with two digs. Richardson also picked up one kill and a block.
Tamera Hurlburt earned four aces and a dig while Quinnlin LaMonica collected three kills and three blocks to round out the scoring.
UV was led by Kate Conway who earned at least one of everything with 15 assists, 10 digs, six aces, three kills, and one block. Aside from Conway, Hudson Lyons picked up seven assists and a kill while Maddie Sayles and Bella Jones both had eight kills.
Sales also picked up an ace while Jones earned one block. Erica Mumbulo had seven kills and one block in the loss.
Both teams played one of the toughest match of the entire season and gave it their all no matter the outcome at the end of the day.
