GREENE – On Monday, the Greene Trojans field hockey team hosted Afton/Harpursville in the final game before sectionals. Both teams needed one more game to complete the 2022 regular season.
It was a battle from start to finish where Greene won 1-0 in overtime.
With a minute to go in the overtime, Greene’s Josie Dutcher ended the scoreless game off a pass from Payton Yahner at the left side of the net with the goalie defending on the far right.
Yahner almost had a goal herself in the second quarter but it didn’t count as she was outside of the circle. She was proud to have earned the assist on the game-winner.
Both teams appreciated the extra prep for sectionals as it had been two weeks or more since they’d seen game action.
Greene represents class “A” in sectionals where they will be playing Maine-Endwell, who they had luck against in the regular season. The game will be held on Saturday, October 29 at 2 p.m.
Afton/Harpursville is in class “B” where they will face Vestal on Saturday at 6 p.m.
Both games will be in Owego and admission will be charged via GOFAN digital ticketing.
