Sheriff nabs pair of burglars targeting Sherburne businesses
SHERBURNE – On Wednesday December 7, Chenango County Sheriff Ernest R. Cutting announced the arrest of two people allegedly responsible for a string of break-ins and thefts from businesses in Sherburne.
After conducting a search warrant at the suspects' residence police arrested Andrew E. Frank, Jr., 50 years old, and Rena M. Jones, 49 years old, and charged them with numerous counts of third degree burglary and third degree criminal mischief.
Investigators reported the two Sherburne residents were arrested as a result of a lengthy criminal investigation that culminated in the execution of a search warrant this week.
For weeks sheriff’s detectives had been investigating numerous burglaries of local businesses within the Village of Sherburne.
Police said evidence from the neighborhood and security camera canvasses led detectives to the two suspects.
“The investigation found that on numerous occasions in November and December the suspects had broken into local businesses and stole money and damaged property,” reported the sheriff's office.
Andrew E. Frank, Jr. was arraigned in court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility with no bail.
Rena was released on an appearance ticket for Village of Sherburne Court.
The sheriff also said, “The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the many members of the community for their assistance throughout the investigation. The investigation is still onagoing and more charges are pending.”
All crimes described are allegations, and suspects named are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
