GIRLS BASKETBALL: Oxford stays hot with win over Franklin
MORRIS – With much preparation under their belt, the Oxford Blackhawks were eager to return to the court on Saturday against Franklin. The Blackhawks played fiercely and won 65-15 in just their third game of the season.
Oxford played tremendous defense only allowing eight points in the first half, with no points given up in the whole second quarter. Their defensive strategy continued in the second half while their offense succeeded on the other side of the court.
Madalyn Barrows led the Blackhawks with 20 points and picked up nine rebounds on the afternoon. Behind her was Ella Kelsey with 13 points who helped out with three offensive rebounds. While these ladies were the team leaders in the contest, it was an all-around team effort with everyone seeing playing time on the court.
Franklin’s Tamara Wright scored a team-high of seven points in the loss while teammates Macey Beers and Lucas VanDyke helped out with five rebounds each. The Purple Devils picked up 21 defensive rebounds, but turned the ball over 25 times, which slowed down any momentum offensively.
