NORWICH – It was a night full of wrestling at Jack Jones Gymnasium on Thursday evening. The Norwich Pee-Wee wrestlers took the mat at 5:30 p.m. for a nine-dual meet against Oneonta’s youth team.
The Norwich Varsity team followed, but before the match they celebrated their three seniors.
Seniors Robert McIntyre, Nate Murphy, and Mason Edwards were honored for their efforts throughout all four years on the team.
Robert McIntyre is a four-year varsity wrestler with a career record of 39-35, including 25 pins. His future plan is to become a professional bull rider. He should be able to achieve such goal using his wrestling skills. He also won his match in the 285 weight class with a pin against Nason Renne at 1:30.
Nate Murphy is also a four-year wrestler and a co-captain this season with a career record of 38-35 with 18 pins. He, along with others, have gone through several injuries over his career, in which Coach Bob Hagenbuch appreciates the sacrifices these gentlemen have made for Norwich Wrestling. Nate will join the United States Marines after high school graduation. He also won his match in the 138 class with a pin against Wyatt Jones.
Mason Edwards is a five-year varsity wrestler with a record of 48-20 with 26 pins. Mason is going on to college where he will study marketing. He won his match with a quick 45 second pin against Darren Rose.
Other notable performances of the night include wins from Regan Roach with a 14-6 major decision and Yanni Drapaniotis taking down Oneonta’s Brighton Logue in 32 seconds of the first period.
Norwich lost the match 36-34 off Oneonta’s forfeit points in the final match of the night as Norwich did not have any wrestlers in the 189 class.
