TENNIS: Oxford falls to Sidney in first match of season

OXFORD – On Tuesday, the Oxford tennis team hosted Sidney for its first match of the 2023 season. Sidney won the match 4-1 with Jill and Jocie Finch earning the only point for the Blackhawks.

Jill and Jocie Finch faced Liam Gronwall and Gavin Granger in three sets with the Oxford ladies taking the first set as well as the final set 10-8 after falling 6-2 in the second.

For the other doubles match, Nora Throrne and Addison Hinman dropped two sets to Emily Morris and Chloe van der Sommen 6-1 and 6-0.

In the singles, Sidney won all three matches. Danny Morris defeated senior John Rovente 6-1 and 6-2 while Connor van der Sommen took the final set against Madalyn Barrows after both had won one a piece. Oxford’s Sam Hendricks fell to Sidney’s Will Cossack 6-2 and 6-3.

Oxford (0-1) will host Deposit/Hancock this afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
