Smash and grab thieves strike Smoke Shop in downtown Norwich

NORWICH – Early Friday morning a pair of brazen thieves smashed their way through a back door to the A&S Smoke Shop at 33 North Broad Street, quickly and destructively ransacking the store as the alarm rang.
At about 5:41 a.m., the alarm at the shop sounded and video cameras recorded two people with hoodies pulled over their heads breaking in. One suspect appears to be wearing a white hoodie and the other appears to be wearing a black hoodie.
In less than four minutes of the alarm sounding, Norwich Police officers were on scene, but when they arrived they only found a broken door, a damaged interior, and a shattered cash register.
“In this preliminary investigation, we are able to determine that a quantity of currency, lottery tickets, cigarettes and other items were stolen. This is an ongoing investigation, and if anyone has any information we are asking them to contact the Norwich Police Department at 607-334-2424,” reported Norwich Police Chief Reuben Roach.
Police estimate thousands in cash and merchandise may have been taken, and perhaps a few thousand in damages.
