TENNIS: Greene drops to Sidney
GREENE – After two consecutive matches on the road, the Greene Trojans tennis team returned home to face Sidney on Thursday afternoon. Greene fell short 3-2.
Sidney took two of the three singles matches before achieving victory in one doubles match. Danny Morris defeated Greene’s Maeric Barrows in two sets with scores of 6-3 and 6-4. Greene’s Alex Boel fell 6-1 and 6-3 to the Warriors’ Will Dassick.
Shane Rideout picked up the win in singles for Greene in three tough sets against Connor van der Sommen. Rideout won the first set before a tough 7-6 loss, but came through in the final set with a 6-4 victory.
Cassie Butler and Paul Starliper defeated Emily Morris and Chloe van der Sommen for the Trojans’ second point of the day. The first set was a close 7-6 win for Cassie and Paul before earning the overall victory of 6-2 in the final set.
Billie Kinney and Hunter Becker fought through in three sets against Sidney’s Liam Gronwall and Gavin Granger, but took the loss. Billie and Hunter took the first set 6-3, but fell in the final two by scores of 6-2 and 6-3.
Greene hosts Oxford on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
