SOFTBALL: Oxford defeats Harpursville

OXFORD – On a wet Monday afternoon, the Oxford Blackhawks softball team hosted Harpursville in a MAC league matchup. Oxford picked up its third win of the season with a 7-2 victory over the Hornets, who had seen a few tough games of their own.
Oxford got on the board early in the second inning and continued to have a consistent offense throughout the contest. The Blackhawks scored two runs in the third, fifth, and sixth inning to secure the victory. Harpursville scored their only two runs in the third inning and struggled against a strong Blackhawks defense.
Ella Kelsey provided the biggest hit for Oxford with a home run in the fifth inning and reached base two other times, including a walk in the sixth. Naiomi Smith collected two hits and was solid on the mound along with Lily Marshman in relief. The pair combined for six strikeouts in the win.
Oxford (3-5) hosts a tough Deposit-Hancock team on Wednesday, weather permitting, for Senior Night at 4:30 p.m.
