SOFTBALL: B-G falls to Oneonta

ONEONTA – After snapping a five-game winning streak in the loss to Deposit-Hancock last Thursday, the Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats softball team has dropped three straight games. They fell to Oneonta 7-2 on Thursday afternoon. B-G is now tied with Unadilla Valley for third place in the MAC standings with a 6-3 conference record, but stands tall at 8-4 on the overall season.

B-G out hit Oneonta 9-7, but failed to score until late in the contest. Meanwhile, Oneonta got on the board in the first and scored a run in the second before putting up a five-run fourth inning.

The Bobcats, down 7-0, finally answered back in the fifth and seventh inning with two unearned runs.

Brenna George came home in the fifth inning as she stole home plate on Alessandra Cafasso's at-bat while the Yellowjackets were able to catch teammate Breanna Casey stealing second. Casey led the Bobcats offense with three hits in four plate appearances while Danica Park and Gabriella Cuozzo both had two hits in the loss.

The Bobcats scored their final run in the top of the seventh inning as Celeste Baldwin scored on an error by the third baseman with one out. B-G’s next two batters went down, stranding a runner in scoring position. Baldwin and Cuozzo were on the mound for the Bobcats and combined with seven strikeouts in the loss.

B-G hosts Walton this afternoon at 4:30 p.m. before participating in the SFCU tournament at Sidney High School, which also features Norwich, Seton Catholic, and host Sidney. The tournament begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
