OXFORD – The Oxford Blackhawks tennis team hosted two straight home matches, where they fell in 3-2 deficits to Greene and B-G. In Monday’s loss to Greene, Oxford honored its three dedicated seniors; Madalyn Barrows, Jill Finch, and John Rovente. Best of luck to each of you.
John Rovente played in two tough singles matches in the last two days. He fell 6-0 and 6-2 to Greene’s Maeric Barrows before defeating BG’s Garrett O’Hara in a best of three (6-3, 1-6, 6-4).
Oxford fell in the other singles matches in both contests by forfeit.
In doubles, Madalyn Barrows and Sam Hendricks fought against Greene’s Cassie Butler and Paul Starliper on Monday and took two-of-three after falling in the first set (4-6,6-3,6-4). Barrows and Hendricks also won against BG’s Marek Rajner and Ilias Wilson 6-1 and 6-2.
Jill Finch and Jocie Finch will miss partnering together next season as Jill is a senior and Jocie is a junior. However, the pair stayed strong and went 1-1 in both matches. They defeated Billie Kinney and Hunter Becker in two sets with scores of 6-2 and 7-5. They fell on Tuesday to BG’s Cooper Sienko and Kevin Lang in a best of three. Jill and Jocie took the second set with a score of 6-0 but dropped the first and third sets (5-7, 4-6).
