SOFTBALL: B-G advances with walk-off win vs Groton

BAINBRIDGE – The Bainbridge-Guilford Lady Bobcats hosted Groton for the first round of sectionals on Thursday afternoon. Down 12-11 coming into the bottom of the seventh inning, B-G scored the tying and game-winning run to advance with a 13-12 victory.
The Bobcats scored both runs on errors made by the opposing defense and racked up 12 hits on offense throughout the game. Jayslin Henderson led B-G at the plate as she went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs.
Gabriella Cuozzo had a team-high of three RBIs and contributed to B-G’s seven-run fifth inning, along with Brenna George, Alessandra Cafasso, and Henderson. Groton scored nine runs in the third inning before allowing B-G to catch up in that fifth inning.
Celeste Baldwin started the game on the mound for the Bobcats, but could only go two innings, striking out three batters. Gabriella Cuozzo finished the game in relief, where she earned the victory and struck out five batters through five innings.
B-G travels to Elmira Notre Dame on Tuesday, starting at 4:30 p.m.
