NORWICH – Local and federal officials announced last week that the Lt. Warren E. Eaton Airport will get a $2.3 million federal boost from the Federal Aviation Administration.
Funding comes by way of the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program, which is awarded to airports to bolster their airfield safety and improve day-to-day operations.
The Norwich-based Lt. Warren E. Eaton Airport was among 13 airports across New York State to receive federal funds totaling more than $27 million.
“This grant will allow us to rehabilitate our taxiway, along with the signs and lighting adjacent to them, providing a safer experience for pilots,” said Shane Butler, Chenango County director of planning and administrator at the Norwich airport. “The new lights will also enhance our energy efficiency and save money.”
In 2022, the Chenango County Department of Planning and Development highlighted in its annual report three key projects for the Norwich airport, an improved taxiway being one of them. Other projects included a pavement management study and renovations to one of its jet hangers.
