NORWICH — Hidden Springs Brewhouse, located at 170 County Road 31 in Norwich, will be hosting a weekend full of music, food, and games to celebrate their fourth anniversary on August 10, 11, 12, and 13.
Kicking off the weekend on Thursday, August 10 will be a performance by Amy Branham from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., and a visit from the Kandi's Kitchen food truck. Crushing Midnight will perform from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 11, with food by Phat Backs food truck and Hubcap Munchies.
Saturday will feature a performance by the Ryan Matter Band from 4 to 7 p.m., and food by the Smokeout BBQ food truck. The Chenango United Way will also be in attendance with a cornhole tournament.
Closing out the anniversary weekend will be a show by the Bruce Beadle Trio from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 13, as well as a classic car drive in during the brewhouse's open hours from 12 to 6 p.m.
Hidden Springs Brewhouse is owned and operated by Chenango County resident Krista Porter, who opened up shop in August 2019 after she retired. She said her first idea was to grow hops, but instead opted for a brewhouse.
"It was kind of going to be a retirement hobby. Our first choice was growing hops, but we realized that would be more like farming, and it had a lot of variables of whether you would be able to consistently grow them each year," she explained. "A lot of the soil up here is clay, so that’s not the best."
The brewhouse features wine and hard cider from local producers, as well as a wide selection of craft beers brewed in house by Hidden Springs. Currently on the menu is Lady of the Lake, Breakfast Juice, HSB Vienna Lager, Basic Witch, Single-Hop, Eternal Sunshine, Always Freakin' Cloudy, Flying Hippie, Reindeer Fuel, Turbo Fuel, and the award-winning Krista's Vanilla Porter.
The malty, dark beer recently won a silver medal in the 2023 US Open Beer Championships, and was also awarded a bronze medal in 2022 and a silver medal in 2020.
In addition to their refreshing selection of craft beers, Hidden Springs also introduced their own hard seltzer, available in a variety of flavors.
"We have a variety of purees that people can mix with it. So it’s all up to that individual," said Porter. "This way it kind of pleases everybody."
Local beer lovers can sample Hidden Springs brews at Taste of Chenango this Saturday from 1 to 7 p.m. at the Chenango County Fairgrounds. The brewhouse will also have pints and cans available for sale.
Attendees to this year's Chenango Blues Fest on August 18 and 19 will also see Hidden Springs Brewhouse and have the opportunity to sample and purchase their craft beer.
In addition to tasty brews, Hidden Springs also offers regular entertainment with performances by local bands, such as a performance by the Beadle Brothers for the first time on October 1.
"August we’ll have music Thursday through Sunday," said Porter. "In September we start moving it back to Fridays and Saturdays and some Sundays, because Sundays we seem to compete with football."
They also host several events and fundraisers throughout the year. Coming up is the Chair-ry Fest on August 5, where a few local residents will be attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the world's largest high chair.
Additionally, Hidden Springs will be hosting a fundraiser for the Chenango SPCA on September 2; Halfway to St. Patty's Day on September 16, which includes a basket raffle for the Norwich St. Baldrick's; and an Oktoberfest celebration on September 29 and 30, and October 1.
