GREENE – It’s always a rough match when Greene and Afton/Harpursville face off on the turf. With both teams playing aggressively, the Crimson Knights pulled off the 4-1 victory.
Coming off a big tournament win in Downsville, the Crimson Knights put their trust in the feet of Equan Patterson. He scored four goals with help from his teammates and even his own goalkeeper. Equan’s first goal came quickly in the first half. He received the goal kick from Carter Burns and was able to push through with a big breakaway to score. Toni Obeada and Caleb Anderson also assisted on two of the four goals.
Down 2-0, Greene answered back with a goal of their own as Shane Rideout passed the ball off to Jon Westcott to put the Trojans on the scoreboard. Unfortunately, Greene couldn’t net another one to keep up with Afton/Harpursville as the Crimson Knights played a heavily pressured defense. Greene did have a few opportunities from Kloden Rapp, but were unlucky.
Greene also saw improvement from their young goalkeeper Jackson Roth, who made four saves with coming in halfway through the game.
Afton/Harpursville improves to 4-0 and will host non-league opponent Sherburne-Earlville on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. Greene (0-2) looks to bounce back from two tough losses in a rescheduled game against Sidney tonight at 7 p.m.
