Football: Norwich rolls on with big win over JC
NORWICH - After a big win over Oneonta, the Norwich Purple Tornado powered through Johnson City 56-0 for their 2023 home opener. Norwich has now outscored opponents 114-0 in the past two games.
The Tornado scored on every offensive drive and held Johnson City to just 41 yards. Norwich racked up 450 yards with 376 yards of rushing alone.
Braden Hagenbuch contributed with most of the carries for 177 yards and scored one touchdown. Quarterback Steven Dowdall also got in the midst of the run game with rushing for 87 yards and scored two touchdowns.
Mitchell Collins led Norwich overall with three touchdowns, including catching two touchdown passes from Dowdall. Dowdall finished 7-for-8 in completions for 76 yards with two touchdowns.
Tiernan Lindsay also caught a touchdown pass from Collins in the final drive of the fourth quarter.
Zac Turner and Drew Westervelt collected one sack each on the opposing quarterback while the rest of the Tornado defense pressured Johnson City to punt six times and turnover on downs once to keep them off the board.
Norwich (2-1) looks to keep the hype going as they host Horseheads on Friday at 7 p.m. from Ulrich Field.
