GREENE – Groton turned back a potential tying Greene score midway through the fourth quarter and hung on for the eight-point over the Trojans on Friday night at Greene.
The state-ranked Indians methodically drove down the field for the go-ahead score chewing up clock late in the third quarter with a powerful run game and scored the go-ahead TD early in the fourth.
Greene converted some key third downs on its ensuing drive, but an interception inside the Groton 30 ended the potential scoring drive.
“We showed a lot of resilience and heart,” said Greene head coach Dave Gorton, who added that a number of key players had lingering injuries from the previous week. “We made plays, just not enough plays. Groton is big up front. Their running back was a returning all-state player, and their quarterback was fast. They are a legitimate team.”
All three Greene (1-1) touchdowns came through the air.
Jaden Eroshevich tossed a TD pass to Joel Vielandi in the opening quarter, and added a pair of TD passes to Bill Dunlap in the second and third quarters.
“We’re close to where we want to be, and we’re only going to get better,” Gorton said.
Greene hosts Hamilton-Waterville this weekend.

MORAVIA – State-ranked Moravia improved to 3-0 on the season rolling past Oxford on Saturday afternoon.
The Blue Devils raced to a 42-0 lead after one period and led 62-6 at the halftime break.
Oxford’s first-half score came on a TD pass from Jacob Gallo to Dominick Howe.
“Yesterday was a whipping, but we scored on their first-team defense, and we’re the first team to do that this season,” said Oxford coach Mitch Cluff.
Oxford (0-2) hosts Groton on Friday.
Unadilla Valley vs. New York Mills
NEW YORK MILLS – Unadilla Valley’s Saturday matchup at New York Mills postponed and rescheduled to Monday, Sept. 17 at 4:30 p.m.

BAINBRIDGE – Coming off a win over Sidney, the Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats football team hosted Delhi, suffering the loss to the Bulldogs who now stand at 4-0. Sophomore quarterback Connor Davy threw for two touchdown passes while Declyn Marshfield led the Bobcats with 200 all-purpose yards, including 65 kick return yards.
B-G (1-2) heads to Walton on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
