Golf: Greene sweeps series vs Oxford
OXFORD – After Greene won the first match on their home course, both teams knew the last crosstown match of the regular season would be very competitive. In the highly anticipated rematch, Greene just pushed past Oxford by one point in the 223-224 win.
Lincoln Youngs shot an overall low of 37 for the Trojans with Parker Flanagan following behind with a 42. Austin Dehaan (47), Noah Symons (48), and Trent Drew (49) all followed in line with each other to round out the team scoring. Hunter Becker received playing time as the team’s sixth golfer.
Sylas Emerson led the Blackhawks with a low of 41 as Bennett Paden finished with a 42. Kyle Benjamin stayed strong with a 46 while Ethan Hodge shot a 47. Jerry Hornbeck capped off the Blackhawks scoring with a 48 as Degan Endress played as the team’s sixth golfer, in case the match had to be decided through his score.
With a tough series out of the way, both teams are still rolling through the MAC league, coming off losses to Sidney, who remains undefeated. Greene sits in second place with a 5-1 overall and divisional record while Oxford is in third at 5-3. Both teams are still contenders with about five matches left.
Greene and Oxford both face Bainbridge-Guilford in their next match. Greene is back on the course this afternoon against the Bobcats at 3:45 p.m. at Sundown while Oxford heads to B-G on Friday.
