GREENE – After defeating the Oxford Blackhawks on the road, the Greene Trojans boys soccer team was prepared to face them again Wednesday for senior night. Just like the previous match-up last Saturday, the Trojans came away with a 4-1 victory.
Prior to the game, Greene honored its seven seniors. Congratulations to Jonah Browning, Trevor Ketcham, Colin Colgan, Jon Westcott, Braeden Goerlich, Alex Boel, and Jaron Hogancamp. All seven seniors started and played a majority of the contest, especially with Goerlich playing terrific in goal.
Greene also gave a shoutout to Oxford’s seniors, Jerry Hornbeck and Aidan Amin.
Greene got on the board early within eight minutes into the opening half with a goal by Kloden Rapp. This was Rapp’s 12th goal of the season. Rapp found a breakaway off a mid-field pass and took it to the far left of the goal and netted it in.
The Trojans scored again about 10 minutes later on a goal by Jon Westcott.
Oxford got within one with five minutes left until halftime from Jared Sheridan, who found a scoring opportunity against a pressure-heavy Trojans defense. Other that great touch, Oxford was limited in the second half.
Greene took a 2-1 lead at halftime and added two additional goals in the second half. Trevor Ketcham got involved after receiving a pass from Seth Symons to net one in while Symons scored on an assist from Rapp on a direct kick.
Greene improves to 6-5 on the season, behind Afton/Harpursville in the MAC standings, and will head to UV/GMU on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
Oxford drops to 3-8 and will face a tough Afton/Harpursville team on Friday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
