Commerce Chenango
This Week, Commerce Chenango and the Evening Sun would like to highlight Bull Thistle Bridal, founded in July of 2023 in Oxford, NY.
This dress shop helps customers, “Say Yes to the Dress For Less!”
Owner Karri Beckwith stated that: “Due to our rural location, residents must travel at least an hour to shop for any type of formal wear. I have always felt that our area would benefit from a store that would give clients the opportunity to purchase the same dresses they would find at a high-end retail store yet at a very discounted price.”
The dresses are purchased at close-out auctions and are usually samples, discontinued or older stock dresses. Some have small defects (buttons missing, loose threads, soiled hem) but all issues are disclosed in the listing.
Carrying around 200 dresses, Bull Thistle Bridal makes style accessible to buyers by looking at what the original retail price of the dress was and mark it down 70% off retail. There are no exceptions, every dress is at least 70% off.
Also, Beckwith aims to be inclusive: “I want to continue to empower girls and women of all shapes and sizes by offering a comfortable, judgement free, body positive shopping experience with their family and friends.”
Beckwith has a very comfortable and welcoming area to try on dresses and can accommodate a small group at your appointment. She does not accept consignments, all dresses come from other retailers. Bull Thistle Bridal currently has dresses in stock from Texas, Oklahoma, Maryland, and Illinois.
Bull Thistle Bridal happily participating in Small Business Saturday in Oxford on November 25th, 2023. As an entrepreneur, Beckwith understands the struggle shared among business owners. “After COVID, small town America is struggling with empty store fronts due to losing so many small businesses. I am so proud to bring my business to Oxford and in turn hopefully they will visit the other small businesses that are in the area.”
This past Monday, Bull Thistle Bridal hosted a Commerce Chenango ribbon cutting and had the opportunity to serve refreshments and show the shop to community members. Beckwith would like to thank her husband, family and friends, Commerce Chenango and the NY Small Business Development Center in Binghamton. “Bull Thistle Bridal wouldn’t have been possible without your intense support.”
Beckwith and her husband Michael are lifelong residents of Chenango County and are very proud to welcome new clientele into the area. For now, they are showing dresses in their home on Chenango Street but plan to open a "pop-up" shop during the holidays and for prom season. According to Beckwith: “We know the pricing and quality of our products are enough to keep people coming back, but we’re also highly committed to customer satisfaction and creating a comfortable and intimate shopping experience that can’t be found anywhere else.” Since Beckwith still works a full-time job, dresses can be viewed by appointment only. Beckwith requests that interested parties send her a message to arrange an appointment.
