Boys Soccer: Afton/Harpursville advances with win over Marathon
AFTON - The Afton/Harpursville Crimson Knights boys soccer team hosted Marathon on Friday in the next round of sectionals. The Crimson Knights rolled on with a 3-1 win to prepare for a big semi-finals game.
After a scoreless first half, Afton/Harpursville pushed through with the momentum they've been riding on for multiple games. The team leaders continued to make their mark as Bobby Mercilliott, Toni Obeada, Equan Patterson, and Ryan Dawson added on to their season statistics.
Mercilliott, Obeada, and Patterson scored goals while Dawson, Obeada, and Mercilliott picked up assists.
Patterson now has 27 goals while Mercilliott has 19 and Obeada with 15 on the season. Dawson leads the team with 12 assists with Mercilliott behind him with 11.
Marathon got on the board with a goal by Robert Anderson.
Afton/Harpursville will be on the road for the semi-finals as they head to Seton on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. Seton is the top seed of the Section IV, Class C tournament, who received a bye and defeated Greene.

Greene falls to Seton 6-2. Greene ends its 2023 season 9-7-1. Kloden Rapp led the Trojans with 14 goals while Jon Westcott had eight on the season.
B-G falls to Trumansburg 8-2. The 2023 MAC runner-up finishes the 2023 season 7-7-1. Brock Porter led the Bobcats with 14 goals and eight assists as Easton Porter had 11 goals.
