Boys’ Swimming: Greene falls to Dryden in season opener
GREENE – On Wednesday, the Greene Trojans boys swim team hosted Dryden for the first meet of the 2023 season. Despite a 93-41 deficit, the Trojans saw great performances from several key returners, along with a few newcomers.
Paving the way for Greene was junior Hunter Becker who swam in three events. Becker came away with two second place finishes in both the 100 yard freestyle and in the 100 yard backstroke while finishing third in the 100 yard breaststroke.
Eighth grader Sherman Ludolph also returns for the Trojans, where he picked up two second place finishes in the 50 yard freestyle, where he swam a time of 57.86 seconds, and came in second in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 1:06.32.
Teammate Drake Malmquist swam the team’s best of the night with a first place finish in the 100 yard freestyle event, which he completed in a speedy 57.01 seconds.
Seniors Austin deHaan and Jon Westcott had a good last first meet as well. deHaan finished second in both the 500 yard freestyle and in the 100 yard breaststroke while Westcott swam the 100 yard butterfly in 1:12.46, which was close to Dryden’s leading 1:12.13. Izan Romero Requena and Andrew Roberts, who are both new to the team this season, swam in the 50 yard freestyle event where Izan came in fifth and Roberts in sixth.
