NORWICH — On Saturday, December 2 at approximately 2:20 p.m., the Norwich Police Department (NPD) received a telephone call of a shots fired complaint in the area of Henry Street in the City of Norwich.
Norwich Police Officers responded to Henry Street and located a single bullet hole made by a large-caliber rifle bullet that travelled through two walls into a first-floor residence.
Anyone with information regarding this incident should contact the City of Norwich Police Department at 607-334-2424.
It was determined the bullet entered the residence from the street, but NPD Chief Reuben Roach said at this time they are unable to determine if the shooting was intentional or accidental.
"Based on the trajectory it doesn't appear to be coming from the wooded areas; I know it's hunting season," said Roach. "That might be speculation, but at this point it time where the bullet entered there would be really no cause for it to come in at that angle and be associated with hunting."
No injuries were reported in relation to the incident.
“Thankfully no one was injured by this large-caliber bullet," Roach said. "We have several detectives working the case. At this point in time we're looking from any information from the public and urge them to call the police department."
The Norwich Police Department is working in conjunction with the New York State Police Crime Lab in this matter.
