Boys’ Swimming: Greene hosts Oneonta
GREENE – The Greene Trojans swim team hosted Oneonta in the first meet of the new year, where the Trojans continue to improve on individual swim times. In Thursday’s meet, Greene’s Austin deHaan set a new best time in the 100 yard breaststroke while his teammates continued to strive in their own personal events.
deHaan swam a top finish in the breaststroke with a new best time of 1:22.13 while Jon Westcott finished second and Hunter Becker in third place. deHaan also swam in the 200 yard freestyle, where he came in third place with a time of 2:13.59. Westcott took third in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:15.12, about 12 seconds from Oneonta’s leader (1:03.02).
Aside from deHaan, Greene saw a top finish from Drake Malmquist, who finished first in the backstroke with a time of 1:16.86 as Sherman Ludolph came in second (1:27.78). Malmquist also swam in the 200 freestyle event, where he finished second with a time of 58.64 seconds. Izan Romero Requena earned fifth place in the same event, setting a new personal best time of 1:18.43.
Ludolph competed in the 50 yard freestyle with teammate Andrew Roberts behind him. Ludolph came in fourth place with a time of 30.66 and Roberts followed in fifth place (36.93 seconds). Hunter Becker and Gavin Demars also finished behind one another in the 500 yard freestyle. Becker came in third place in the lengthy event, completing it in 6:39.44 with Demars in fourth with a time of 7:22.05.
Greene is looking forward to competing against local Norwich on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in their first away meet of the season.
