Winter Track: Local trackletes compete in Hurley Invitational

ITHACA – On Friday, local winter track teams traveled to Ithaca College to compete in the Hurley Invitational in the first meet of the new year.
Athletes from Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton/Harpursville, Norwich, Oxford/Greene, and Unadilla Valley all participated amongst each other, where many achieved new personal best times. Full results can be found on ny.milesplit.com.
BGAH:
Girls:
The BGAH girls had many standout athletes including great performances by Ethne Degan, Maddie Ingham, Makayla McCloud, Vanessa Brazee, Lelania Baldwin, and Emily Sprow. All these dedicated ladies did well in at least one or more events.
Degan, Baldwin, Brazee, and Ingham competed as a team in the 4x800 relay, where they finished second with a time of 10:50.08, behind Corning’s 10:13.85.
Degan also took the top finish in her prominent event of the 1000 meter run, where she achieved a new personal best time of 3:02.99. Teammate Macey LaFever finished 18th in the same event with her own personal best of 3:47.60.
Ingham ran the 600 meter event for a fifth place finish with a time of 1:46.03 while Sage Pruskowski finished 18th (1:57.39). Makayla McCloud led the Bears in three events on the day with her best performance in the 55 meter dash, finishing fifth while setting a new best time of 46.08 seconds in the 300 meter dash, which was good for eighth place. She also achieved ninth in the long jump with a jump of 14 feet, 11 inches and watched as teammate Brenna George accomplished a new best 14-4 for 16th place.
Emily Sprow also participated in three events, where she competed in the 55 meter hurdles, in the high jump, and in the triple jump. Her top performance was in the triple jump, where she jumped a new best 34 feet, nine and a half inches for third place. She also jumped for a 16th place finish in the high jump (4-2). Teammate Olivia Nichols finished ninth in the same high jump event (4-6). Sprow set a new personal best time of 10.49 seconds in the 55 meter hurdles, where she came in 18th place.
Lelania Baldwin achieved a new best time of 12:20.13 in the 3200 meter run, which was good for eighth place. Allison Hauptmann and Emmeline Vroman capped off the fielding events for BGAH in the weight throw. Hauptmann finished 14th with a throw of 26 feet, two 3/4 inches and Vroman came in 16th place (21-11.25).
Boys:
The BGAH boys also saw great action from their top runners and fielders throughout the meet.
Collin Dicks led the team in his three events, including the top overall finish in the triple jump with a jump of 41-1.75. Dicks also finished fourth in the long jump (19-6.75) and ran for a 14th place finish in the 55 meter dash (7.01 seconds).
Aside from Dicks, Julian Pruskowski, Kevin Lang, Brock Porter, Ashton Adams, Timothy Barnett, and Harpo Hardt did well in their events. Pruskowski achieved a new personal best time in the 55 meter dash, running a speedy 6.94 seconds, which was good for ninth place. He also competed in the triple jump with a jump of 38-9.75 for fourth place. Hardt continues to improve on his jumps, especially in the triple jump, achieving a new personal record of 38-3.50.
Lang finished ninth in the 300 meter dash, setting a new best time of 38.80 seconds. Porter, Adams, and Barnett achieved new best times in their respective events.
Porter ran the 600 meter run with his new best time of 1:32.76 for sixth place. Adams and Barnett both competed in the 55 meter hurdles, where Adams ran a new best 10.14 seconds for 19th place and Barnett tied for 24th place (new best 10.51).
Norwich:
Girls:
The Norwich Purple Tornado girls’ indoor track team had a solid day at the meet. Its top runners were Ava Cirigliano, Kyra Brunick-Davis, and Annie Boland. Lara Tefft, Briley Beckwith, Reagan Decker, and Olivia Palmer led the action in the fielding events.
Cirigliano tied for ninth place in the 300 meter dash with a time of 46.15 seconds. Kyra Brunick-Davis set a new personal best time of 3:49.98 in the 1000 meter run for 19th place as Annie Boland finished 18th in the 1500 meter run (6:08.92).
Lara Tefft led Norwich in fielding with a seventh place finish in the shot put with a throw of 27 feet, eight inches. She also finished eighth in the weight throw (30-2) while Olivia Palmer came in 12th place with a throw of 26-9.75.
Reagan Decker and Briley Beckwith competed in the triple jump event. Decker jumped 29-4.50 for 14th place while Beckwith finished 18th (26-11.50). Both came very close to setting personal bests themselves.
Boys:
The Norwich boys were solid on the run and strong in fielding throughout the meet. Caden Sutton and Connor Marshall paved the way for the runners as Gabe Blenis and Kaden Downey provided the toughness in their throws.
Caden Sutton ran a top finish for the Norwich male runners as he came in seventh place in the 1000 meter run, which he ran in 2:50.57. Sutton is still chasing his own personal record of 2:46.66 and is striving to top the school record (2:37.90) with two years remaining of his high school career.
Sophomore Connor Marshall ran a speedy 9.60 seconds in the 55 meter hurdles for 14th place in the meet and currently ranks third all-time. He also finished 13th in the high jump with a new personal best jump of four feet, nine inches. Kaiden Vidler did well in his jumps with a 15th place finish in the long jump (17-7.50) and a 13th place finish in the triple jump (35-5.50).
Gabe Blenis set a new personal best in the weight throw with a massive throw of 53 feet, three and a half inches. This throw was just shy of Chenango Valley’s leader’s 54-5 and landed Blenis in second place. Blenis also is second on the all-time records list behind David Bernstein’s 65’ 9’’ set in 2016.
Kaden Downey finished seventh in the weight throw (38-5.75) while also achieving a new personal best in the shot put with a throw of 35 feet, five inches.
Oxford/Greene:
Girls:
It was a rather challenging day for the Oxford/Greene girls. However, multiple athletes earned new personal bests. The top female runner for the Blackhawks' was Liesl Ludolph, who ran the 1000 meter event in a new best time 4:31.01 for 35th place. Shanna Krupp and Rhea Malmquist continue to excel in their fielding events. Krupp set a new best throw of 24 feet, five 3/4 inches for 17th place while also finishing 17th in the weight throw (21-10.75). Malmquist adds on to her record in the weight throw with a new best throw of 22-1.25, which was good for 15th place.
Boys:
The Oxford/Greene boys' team was powered by Lazaurus Ludolph, Gordon Smith, Bartalo Bourn, Isaac Utter, and Nic Richette. Smith achieved Oxford/Greene's top run performance in the meet with a sixth place finish in the 3200 meter run, which he ran in 10:21.40. He also finished 11th in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:58.35. Ludolph competed in the 300 meter dash, where he came in 22nd place with a time of 41.08 seconds.
Bartalo Bourn tied for 11th place in the pole valut with a valut of 8 feet, six inches. Isaac Utter achieved a new best throw of 32-5 in the weight throw for 15th place while Nic Richette finished 21st with a throw of 28-9.75.
Unadilla Valley:
Girls:
The Storm girls continue to succeed this indoor track season alike the BGAH team with improving times and placements. As a team, the Storm finished third in the 4x200 relay with Jaiden Schrag, Molly Gorrell, Kalie Fernandez-Naughton, and Gracie Gorrell completing the event in 1:54.45. Each girl would go on to do well in their own individual events.
Jaiden Schrag set the pace for UV as she continues to improve on her school record in the 55 meter hurdles, setting a new best time of 8.90 seconds. Her performance was second overall in the meet, behind Corning's 8.79. Schrag also came in fourth place in the long jump with a jump of 16 feet, five inches. Gracie Gorrell finished eighth with a jump of 15-5.
Gorrell also competed in the 300 meter dash, where she took third with a time of 43.35 seconds. Madison Dix earned a new best time of 1:55.14 in the 600 meter run for 10th place with teammate Molly Gorrell finishing 16th (1:56.84).
Natalya Schrag set a new personal best in the 1000 meter run, where she finished seventh with a time of 3:22.71. Kalie Fernandez-Naughton rounded out the day with a seventh place finish in the shot put with a throw of 28 feet and a quarter inches.
Boys:
The Storm boys were led by Alex Kemnah and Haywood Edwards. Kemnah ran in two events, where he accomplished new personal best times. He finished 14th in the 1000 meter run, running a new best of 2:58.55. He also came in 23rd in the 1600 meter run with a best time of 5:19.68. Edwards completed the 55 meter hurdles in a speedy 9.04 seconds, setting a new personal record.
All local teams are expected to compete at the Utica Invite held at Utica University on Saturday, January 13 with a start time of 11:45 a.m.
