Boys' Swimming: Norwich hosts Chenango Forks to start new year

NORWICH – On Thursday Jan. 4, the Norwich boys' varsity swim team held a dual meet with Chenango Forks, one of the power house teams in class C.
The final score of the meet was Chenango Forks 81, Norwich 31. Leading the way for Norwich was Nate Shtrauch with a first place finish in the 200 individual medley with a personal best time of 2:32.95, a first place in the 100 backstroke with a 1:10.07 and a member of the third place 20 free relay with a 2:01.07. Kris Deuel was second in the 200 free with a time of 2:04.97, first in the 500 free with a time of 5:39.86 and a third with the team's 200 free relay. Amon Oliver set two personal bests with a third place finish in the 50 free, which he swam in 28.71 seconds, a third place finish in the 100 free with a time of 1:03.55, and third with the 200 free relay. Sharom Thinagaran had a fifth place finish in the 50 free with a PB time of 39.09 and a third place with the 200 free relay.
With four dual meets left for the team before sectionals start, Coach Diefenbacher said the team is working everyday to improve their times to get the best times possible for sectional seeds. Norwich hosts Greene on this evening, Jan. 9 at 5:30 p.m.
