GREENE - The Greene Lady Trojans are off to another great season, which only matches efforts from 2022. However, this time they are eager for the MAC title. They continued their run with a 47-17 victory against Deposit/Hancock on senior night.
Prior to tip-off, Greene honored its three seniors. Congratulations to Molly Cornell, Lyla Biefeldt, and Justina Parsons for all your hard-work and dedication to the girls' basketball program. Each senior also made a great impact in the game.
Greene was off to a pretty slow start than what they're used to. Deposit/Hancock forced them to make long shots and blocked their movement inside the paint. Eventually, Greene found strategies around that and took control before the break. They set up a dominant 31-6 lead at halftime and never looked back.
The Trojans even took that momentum into the second half, adding on to their big lead. They scored 11 unanswered points in the third quarter and shut out the Eagles completely, jumping to a 36-point lead. As they maintained a big lead, the Trojans took out the seniors halfway through the final fourth quarter, which allowed their underclassman to earn some valuable playing time.
Senior Molly Cornell led the Trojans with 12 points, where she picked up multiple steals that led her to drive to the basket quickly. Claire Flanagan finished behind her with 10 points as she knocked in two three's. Josie Dutcher, who was pressured into making the long shots, had seven points with one three-pointer along with Lyla Biefeldt's five points.
Greene improves to 10-1 on the season and heads to Unadilla Valley on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.
