Girls’ Basketball: Norwich drops to Binghamton
NORWICH – With a few games recently added to the remaining schedule, the Norwich Purple Tornado girls’ basketball team hosted Binghamton at Jack Jones gymnasium on Wednesday. Norwich attempted a late second half comeback, but fell 47-35 to the Patriots. The Purple Tornado currently stands at 9-9 with one more game before sectionals.
Norwich was limited in the first half, especially just before halftime to three points on offense. Emma Urgo and Josey Ryan added the lone points in the quarter, where Norwich was down 22-12 at halftime. Binghamton pushed on after the break to extend their lead while the Purple Tornado’s best efforts came in the final eight minutes. Norwich posted 12 points in the fourth quarter, led by Julia Llewellyn and Olivia Schiraldi, who strived to give the offense a boost, even late in the game.
Emma Urgo led the team with 12 points, where she was consistent throughout the game. Josey Ryan and Julia Llewellyn both had five points as Bella Dilorio and Kerrigan Reid both added four points in the loss.
Norwich (9-9) heads to Maine-Endwell on Friday in a non-league match-up at 6 p.m.
