Swimming: Greene competes in Section IV, Class C championship

WATKINS GLEN – Over the weekend, the Greene Trojans swim team traveled to Watkins Glen high school to compete in the Section IV, Class C Championship. The host school won the Class C Title while Greene came in seventh against powerhouse schools such as Chenango Forks, Dryden, Lansing, Sus Valley, and Southern Cayuga.
Greene finished sixth in the team relays while four swimmers stood out individually. Austin deHaan finished his senior year on a high note with two solid placements in both the 200 yard freestyle and in the 500 yard freestyle. In the 200 freestyle event, he came in sixth place with a time of 2:11.70 with his best performance of fourth place in the 500 yard event.
In the 500 yard freestyle, deHaan achieved a new personal best time of 6:05.16. Teammate Hunter Becker finished ninth overall in the same event with his own personal best of 6:21.17. Becker also took ninth in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:40.60.
Drake Malmquist picked up two 10th place finishes in the 50 yard and the 100 yard freestyle events. He swam the 50 yard freestyle in 26.21 seconds while completing the 100 yard freestyle in 58.60.
Senior Jon Westcott capped off his final meet with an eighth place finish in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:21.47.
