Local bowlers compete at state qualifiers

WAVERLY – Over the weekend, many local bowlers brought their talents to the Section IV state qualifiers, which were held at the Valley Bowling Center in Waverly.
After doing well at sectionals, all bowlers were eager for a spot on the Section IV All-star team, where only seven make the cut.
The Unadilla Valley/Norwich bowling team and the Oxford/Greene girls will be sending at least one bowler to states. Oxford’s Brianna Fowlston made it as the sixth bowler after ending up as the alternate last season while Phalen Hill will be representing the Storm as the alternate.
Fowlston bowled a total score of 1769 with a high series of a 633 and a high game of a 245. Hill finished behind her with a score of a 1765, including a high series of a 607 and a high game of a 209, which she tied with teammate Andie Mucha. UV/Norwich’s Brynn Grant missed the cut as she finished ninth with a score of 1741.
After falling short at state qualifiers last season, UV/Norwich’s Dawson Robinson is the fifth member of the all-star team heading to states for his hard work this season and in the qualifiers. Robinson rolled a total score of a 2060 with a high series of a 650 and a high game of a 244.
Teammate Jacob Prentice tied with two other bowlers for seventh place and earned his right to go to States as the alternate after winning the roll-off. Prentice’s tying score was a 2037, where he rolled a 300 in the first game at the State qualifiers for his high game and finished with a high series of a 725 in the first round.
While the Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats is not sending anyone to states, the boys finished off the 2023-2024 season strong. Ryan Larsen led B-G with a total score of 1702 with a 661 series and a high game of a 236. Jacob Lyle followed with a 628 series and a high game of a 221. Seniors Collin Dicks and Joey Doyle ended their final event on a high note. Dicks rolled a 563 series with a high game of a 215 as Doyle finished with a 527 series and a high game of a 202.
Good luck to Brianna, Phalen, Dawson, and Jacob at States. The 2024 NYSPHSAA Bowling Championships will be held on March 8 and 9 at AMF Strike N Spare Lanes in Syracuse.
