Local athletes compete in Badminton/Table Tennis Championship

BAINBRIDGE – Local Chenango County athletes participated in the Section IV Badminton/Table Tennis Championship held at Bainbridge-Guilford High School on Saturday, March 9.

There were 11 teams and 84 athletes in total, including athletes from hosting B-G, Sidney, Norwich, Afton, and surrounding Binghamton area schools.

Sidney earned the Larry Hynes Section IV title with B-G in second place and was awarded the Jody Hughes Sportsmanship award. Norwich tied with Chenango Forks for fifth place as both teams earned seven points and Afton finished eighth with one point.

Norwich’s Olivia Schiraldi and Jason Lian both received the Paul Girolamo award for outstanding badminton players. Both were partners in the mixed doubles. Anthony Pomares also represented Norwich while Collin Dicks played for B-G in the boys badminton singles. Breanna Casey competed in the girls’ singles for B-G. Norwich earned three points from Pomares in the singles and four points from Schiraldi and Lian in the mixed doubles and did not have any players in table tennis.
