NORWICH – Monday evening a Norwich resident was charged with attempted murder after calling police for help and instead ambushed officers with a knife when they arrived.

At about 5:54 p.m., on Monday, April 15, two uniformed Norwich police officers responded to 40 Hayes Street for a reported burglary in progress call.

Norwich Police Chief Reuben Roach said a resident dialed 911 to report an active break-in and gave a description of a fake suspect that actually matched the caller. When police arrived at the home they approached a rear entry and were suddenly confronted at the door by an armed man.
