Softball: B-G holds on to stay unbeaten; defeats Unatego
BAINBRIDGE – After a wild one against Sidney, Unatego rolled into town to take on the unbeaten Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats softball team. Unatego fought hard right down to the finish, but B-G stood their ground to pick up their eighth straight win in a tight 8-7 game.
Unatego went up 5-0, which included a four-run second inning. However, B-G answered back with two in the second off a wild pitch and a RBI single by Brenna George. The Bobcats defense kept Unatego quiet, so the offense could plate three more runs in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game at five. Two runs would be off the hot bat and speed of Jayslin Henderson, who drilled a triple. Henderson, along with Breanna Casey, both went 3-for-4 on the day with Casey leading the team with three stolen bases. The game-tying run would score on an error.
The Bobcats weren’t finished as they added the go-ahead runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Danica Park hit an RBI double as Gabby Cuozzo followed with her own RBI double and finished 2-for-3 at the plate. Emma Kinter brought home what would be the game-winning run as she was hit by the pitch with the bases loaded. Unatego would add two more runs to make it a one-run game in the top of the fifth, but B-G held on to stay undefeated.
Gabby Cuozzo and Brenna George split time on the mound with Cuozzo going the distance. Cuozzo allowed seven runs on seven hits, four walks, and struck out nine batters. George came in briefly and got two outs, but allowed one hit and walked two batters.
B-G (8-0) heads to Walton/Downsville on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
