Track and Field: B-G hosts MAC meet, featuring UV and Afton

BAINBRIDGE – The Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats track and field team hosted their lone MAC meet on Wednesday, featuring Delhi, Harpursville-Afton, Walton, and local Unadilla Valley. The Bobcats won both the boys’ and girls’ races with UV girls finished second and the UV boys took third. All seniors were also celebrated prior to the start of the meet.
B-G:
Boys:
The Bainbridge-Guilford boys won all the team relays in the 4x100, 4x400, and in the 4x800, ahead of Walton each time. Kevin Lang won the 400 meter dash with a time of 55.40 seconds as teammate Julian Pruskowski took third with a time of 59 seconds. Pruskowski also came in fifth place in the 200 meter dash and finished third in the 400 meter dash.
Collin Dicks earned three first place finishes in the 100 meter dash, in the long jump, and in the triple jump. Dicks set a new best jump in the triple jump with a jump of 41 feet, three inches. This accomplishment moves him to fourth place on the B-G track records list for the specific event. He is still chasing the long jump record, but nearly misses each time. He jumped 20 feet, 11 inches to win the long jump this time around. Teammate Nolan Foster finished fifth in the long jump with a jump of 15-11.50.
Harpo Hardt finished second to Dicks in the triple jump with a jump of 38 feet exactly. Hardt also finished second to UV’s Haywood Edwards in the 400 hurdles, where he sprinted a new best time of 1:07.40. He took fourth in the 100 meter dash with a new best time of 11.90 seconds. Jaeden Walling took the top finish in the high jump with a jump of five feet, four inches, which is a new best of the junior.
Easton Porter earned the victory in the 800 meter run, coming in with the fastest time of 2:17 with Brock Porter in fifth place. Easton also finished third in the 1600 meter run, setting a new best time of 5:20.
Elliott Briggs came in second in the shot put event with a throw of 37 feet and a half inch. Briggs also took fourth in the discus throw with a throw of 100 feet exactly. Ryan Larsen followed Briggs in fifth place in the discus with a throw of 92 feet. Matthew Wombacker finished fifth in the pole vault with a mark of eight feet, six inches, which is a new personal best for the sophomore. He also ties for third place on the B-G track records list.
Girls:
The Bainbridge-Guilford girls racked up 139 points to win their home meet. B-G took the team victory in all but the 4x400, which Walton won. The Bobcats won the 4x100 and the 4x800 with UV in second place. Ethne Degan took both wins in the 1500 meter run and in the 3000 meter run. Maddie Ingham finished second in the 3000 meter run, just 10 seconds behind as Degan finished in 12:45 and Ingham in 12:55. Lalaenia Baldwin finished fifth in the same event with a time of 13:42. Ingham took the top spot in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:38, just ahead of UV’s Madison Dix. Baldwin also finished fourth in the 1500 meter run with a new best time of 6:03.
Teammate Makayla McCloud earned a first place finish in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.90 seconds, which is a new personal best for the freshman. Sage Pruskowski took third in the 400 meter dash with Laila Williams and Vanessa Brazee tying for fourth place, both finishing with a time of 1:15.60.
Macaela Burns and Aubrey Schinn followed each other fourth and fifth respectively in the 200 meter dash. Schinn also finished fourth in the long jump with a jump of 12 feet, four inches. Keelan Ammon won the pole vault as the lone female competitor with a mark of six feet, six inches, a new personal best. She also finished fourth in the 100 meter dash with a new best time of 14.10 seconds.
Emily Sprow took both victories in the long and triple jumps. Sprow jumped a top 31 feet, seven inches in the triple jump while achieving a new best jump in the long jump of 15-1.50. Elanor Sprow came in third for the triple jump with a jump of 27 feet, nine and a half inches. Emily finished second to teammate Olivia Nichols in the high jump and Emily also finished fifth in the 100 meter hurdles.
Nichols jumped a top four feet, six inches to win the high jump with Sprow behind with a jump of four feet, four inches and Carly Finch came in fourth place (4-0). Brooklinn Hall finished fifth in the long jump with a jump of 11 feet, eight inches and took fourth in the triple jump (27-7).
Marissa Mayo earned second place in the discus throw while finishing third in the shot put event. Mayo achieved a new personal best in the discus with a throw of 78 feet, eight inches while teammate Olivia Briggs took fifth place with a new best throw of 63-3.
Afton:
Boys:
While being primarily combined with Harpursville as the main school, the Hornets took third place for the boys’ meet. Ashton Adams, Thomas Joyce, Pierce Bushaw, Tyler Roberts, and Bobby Mercilliott led the Afton runners. Adams picked up a fourth place finish in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:13.10 as Mercilliott finished third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.60 seconds.
Joyce competed in the 100 meter dash, the 200 meter dash, and in the long jump. He finished second in both the 200 meter dash and in the long jump while earning a third place finish in the 100 meter dash. Joyce achieved a new personal best in the long jump with a jump of 17 feet, six inches. Roberts finished behind Joyce in third with a jump of 16 feet, five inches. Bushaw took fifth in the high jump with a jump of four feet, six inches.
UV:
Boys:
The Unadilla Valley Storm boys’ track team collected 51 team points to finish behind both B-G and Walton for third place. Haywood Edwards was the lone competitor in the boys’ 110 hurdles, completing the event in 21.40 seconds. He also sprinted the top finish in the 400 meter hurdles in 1:07.
Aside from Edwards, Jacob Prentice earned two victories in the 200 meter dash and in the pole vault event. Prentice finished the 200 meter dash in 23.70 seconds, a new best for the junior while vaulting a mark of 10 feet, six inches. He came in second place to B-G’s Collin Dicks in the 100 meter dash with a new best time of 11.60 seconds. Denzel Peter finished fifth in the 100 meter dash, setting a new best time of 12.20 seconds, and took fourth in the long jump with a jump of 16 feet, one inch. Ben Kemnah finished fourth in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5.27.
Tucker Cattanach was solid for the Storm in his fielding events, where he finished third in both the high jump and in the triple jump. He jumped for 33 feet, eight inches in the triple jump and five feet, two inches in the high jump.
Girls:
The UV Storm girls scored 68 team points behind B-G’s strong first place performance. As a team, UV finished second to B-G in the girls’ 4x800 relay. Jaiden Schrag continues to shine in the 100 meter hurdles with picking up the first place finish with a time of 17.80 seconds. Her sister Natalya Schrag came in fourth place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:50.
Gracie Gorrell earned the top finish in the 200 meter dash while finishing second to B-G’s Makayla McCloud in the 400 meters event. Gorrell sprinted the 200 meter dash in 27.20 seconds and achieved a new best time of 13 seconds in the 400 meter dash, behind McCloud by a few milliseconds (12.90). Kalie Fernandez-Naughton followed in third place finish in the same event with a new best time of 13.50 seconds. She also took second in both the long jump and in the triple jump. Noelle Fernandez-Naughton finished second in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:21.60. Noelle took fifth in the triple jump with a jump of 24-5.25.
Madison Dix took second in both the 1500 meter run and in the 800 meter run. She ran a time of 5:50 in the 1500 meter run behind B-G’s Degan. Dix ran the 800 meter run in 2:44, not far behind B-G’s Ingham.
Kora Johnson wrapped up the day with a fourth place finish in the discus throw with a new best throw of 63 feet, nine inches.
