Baseball: Afton shuts down Walton/Downsville for seventh straight win

AFTON - The Afton Crimson Knights baseball team continue to play dominantly as they picked up their seventh straight win, defeating Walton/Downsville 9-0. It is also the Crimson Knights' fifth shutout victory in a row. With an incredible winning streak, Afton slides into second place in the MAC standings, only sitting behind an unbeaten Unatego/Franklin team.

Afton got ahead early in Saturday's mid-morning game with a ground-out RBI from Justin Reeves. Reeves added an RBI single and had an RBI double in the Crimson Knights' six-run fourth inning. Reeves finished 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs.

Ryan Wright was impressive on the mound and just as great at the plate. At the plate, he had a bases-clearing triple and went 2-for-2 overall. He also struck out 12 batters on the mound and only allowed just one base runner to a walk. Otherwise, Wright pitched a no-hitter while his defense fielded a clean game.

Afton (9-2) heads to Greene on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
