Track and Field: MAC teams compete at Windsor’s O’Donnell Invite

WINDSOR – All four local MAC track and field teams were in attendance for Windsor’s Gerry O’Donnell Invitational on Friday. Oneonta boys and girls won the meet with the Unadilla Valley girls and the B-G boys taking second. The B-G girls took sixth place with Oxford/Greene in 11th and the Oxford/Greene boys finished sixth overall. Runners from Afton also had a solid meet.
Afton:
Girls:
Allison Hauptmann and Grace Sabol competed in their respective fielding events to represent the Afton girls. Sabol finished 16th in the long jump with a jump of 11 feet, two and a half inches as Hauptmann threw 20 feet, two inches in the discus event for 25th place.
Boys:
There were many strong runners and fielders for the Afton boys. Bobby Mercilliott, Thomas Joyce, Ashton Adams, and Marcus Chavis had solid finishes in the races. Mercilliott came in sixth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25 seconds exactly as Joyce ran the 400 meter dash in a time of 54.38 seconds for fifth place with Marcus Chavis finishing 20th. Ashton Adams took seventh in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:09.23.
Joyce also competed in the long jump along with teammate Tyler Roberts. Joyce finished 19th with a jump of 16-3.50 as Roberts jumped 15-1.50 for 23rd. Pierce Bushaw came in 15th place in the high jump with a jump of four feet, nine inches. Jeremiah Santiago threw for 29 feet, five and a half inches for 19th place as Aaron Andres rounded out the day for Afton with a 20th place finish in the discus throw (80-8).
B-G:
Girls:
The Bainbridge-Guilford girls started out the meet with two strong team performances in the relay events. Maddie Ingham, Vanessa Brazee, Lalaenia Baldwin, and Ethne Degan finished third in the 4x800 as Sage Pruskowski, Macaela Burns, Keelan Ammon, and Makayla McCloud took fourth in the 4x100. Each would go on to compete in their own individual event with Maddie Ingham leading the pack with a first place finish in the 800 meter run.
Ammon and Pruskowski both ran the 400 meter dash with Ammon in fifth place with a time of 1:04.50 and Pruskowski took 11th (1:10.04). Ammon also finished ninth in the pole vault event with a mark of six feet.
Lalaenia Baldwin competed in the 1500 meter run, coming in ninth place with a time of 5:54.87 while Macaela Burns finished 14th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 30.66 seconds.
Carly Finch and Emily Sprow both participated in the 100 meter hurdles with Sprow achieving eight place with a time of 19.68 and Finch in 11th (21.31). Finch also competed in the high jump with a jump of four feet, which put her in a tie for 12th place. Teammate Olivia Nichols tied for fifth in the same event with a jump of four feet, six inches. Sprow finished second in the long jump with a jump of 15-5.50 and also earned fourth in the triple jump (31-6). Aubrey Schinn also competed in the long jump, finishing 13th with a jump of 12-0.75.
Marissa Mayo earned two top 10 finishes in her respective throwing events. She took fourth in the discus throw with a throw of 85 feet, eight inches and finished eighth in the shot put event with a throw of 25-6.75.
Boys:
The B-G boys picked up 65 team points to finish second to Oneonta’s dominant 145. The Bobcats got started with a fourth place finish in the 4x100 with a team of Noah Janinda, Anthony Graham, Kyle Patton, and Kevin Lang. Lang and Graham went on to compete in their own individual events with Lang finishing fourth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 54.24. Graham finished 14th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.55. Easton Porter took fourth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:09.90.
Collin Dicks continued his stellar final season with three first place finishes and one second place finish. He earned the top finish in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.53 as he ran the 200 meter dash in a top 23.20. He took the victory in the triple jump with a jump of 40 feet, five and a quarter inches while finishing second in the long jump with a jump of 20 feet and a half inch. Nolan Foster came in 11th in the long jump with a jump of 16-7.50 as Jaeden Walling finished sixth in the high jump (5-6).
Elliott Briggs finished second in the shot put event with a throw of 39 feet, six and a half inches, behind Chenango Valley’s leading 46-10.75. Briggs took seventh in the discus with a throw of 108 feet, eight inches with teammate Ryan Larsen right behind him in eighth place (108-0). Matthew Wombacker capped off the day with a three-way tie for seventh in the pole vault event with a mark of eight feet.
OX/GR:
Girls:
The Oxford/Greene girls had a 11th place finish in the meet with a handful of talented ladies competing in multiple events. Lyla Biefeldt earned the top female finish with a first place finish in the discus with a throw of 104 feet, 10 inches. She also finished third in the shot put event with a throw of 29 feet, eight inches. Zabby Straniero finished 19th in the discus with a throw of 57 feet, four inches.
Kayla Knapp, Liesl Ludolph, and Kayla Swift had solid finishes in their respective sprinting events. Knapp earned fifth place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.96 seconds and took seventh in the 200 meter dash. Swift finished 18th in the same 200 meters event with a time of 31.81 seconds.
Boys:
The Oxford/Greene boys finished sixth overall with a strong start in the team relays as both the 4x100 and 4x800 teams finished second and the 4x100 team took third. Braeden Goerlich, David Dunckel, Dominick Batista, and Lazarus Ludolph was a part of the 4x100 team as Eddie Golden, Aiden Ives, Aiden Amin, and Gordon Smith finished second for the 4x800. Keegan Waltz, Smith, Amin, and Ludolph came in third for the 4x100 before competing in their own individual events.
Gordon Smith, who broke the school record in the 3200 meters event last week, set the record in the 1600 meter run this time around, finishing third with a new best time of 4:39.35. Eddie Golden finished 11th in the same 1600 meters event and is second on the records list behind Smith with his best time of 5:23.91. Aiden Ives came in 11th in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:20.39 as Aiden Amin finished ahead in sixth place with a time of 2:15.15. Amin also finished 14th in the triple jump with a jump of 31 feet, two inches with Dylan Bowers ahead in eighth place (33-5.25).
Braeden Goerlich and Dominick Batista both competed in the 200 meter dash, where Goerlich earned fifth place with a time of 24.68 seconds as Batista came in 13th (25.80). Goerlich also finished sixth in the 100 meter dash. Keegan Waltz and Lazarus Ludolph both ran in the 400 meter dash with Waltz finishing seventh and Ludolph in ninth place. Waltz also finished fourth in the long jump with a jump of 18 feet, 10 and a half inches.
Anthony Bourn achieved second place in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 12:05.80, just short of Delhi’s 11:05.01. He also finished 11th in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:23.78.
Urijah Dibble and Isaac Utter shined in their respective throwing events. Dibble earned two 10th place finishes in both the discus and shot put throws. For discus, he threw for 98 feet, three inches while throwing 35 feet, two inches in the shot put event. Utter took two 16th place finishes in both events. In the discus, he threw 86 feet, two inches and in the shot put, he threw 32-3.25.
UV:
Girls:
The Unadilla Valley Storm girls celebrated after earning the second place team finish in the meet. Their girls’ 4x800 team broke the school record for the second time in a week with a new best time of 10:44.85. Congratulations to Addison Marinelli, Molly Gorrell, Madison Dix, and Natalya Schrag for leading them to this acheivement.
Jaiden Schrag, Kalie Fernandez-Naughton, Gracie Gorrell, and Madison Dix led the 4x400 relay to a top finish as well with Schrag, Bella Potter, Fernandez-Naughton, and Gorrell finishing second in the 4x100.
Following strong team performances, Jaiden Schrag and Gracie Gorrell earned top individual victories in their promient events. Schrag took the win in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:13.15 as Gorrell earned the top finish in the 400 meter dash with a speedy time of 1:02.40. Gorrell also took second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.06 seconds. Molly Gorrell finished fourth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:43.98 with Addison Marinelli in ninth place.
Marinelli finished 12th in the 1500 meter run as Natalya Schrag earned sixth place with a time of 5:32.81. Madison Dix achieved second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:02.42, short of teammate Gorrell. Bella Potter finished seventh in the 100 meter dash.
Kalie Fernandez-Naughton competed in the triple jump with a jump of 30 feet, nine and a half inches for fifth place as her sister Noelle Fernandez-Naughton took fifth in the long jump (14-9.75). Lilyannah Palmer also competed in the long jump with a jump of 10 feet, five and a half inches for 18th place as Kora Johnson finished 13th in the discus with a throw of 63 feet, two inches.
Boys:
The UV boys had a solid day as they finished eighth in their division. Jacob Prentice, Brodey Cattanach, Tucker Cattanach and Denzel Peter led the Storm in multiple events on the day with Ben Kemnah working hard in the 1600 meter run. Kemnah finished 14th with a time of 5:28.26.
Prentice earned three top five or better finishes in all three of his events. He took second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 53.55, just short of Oneonta’s 53.14. He finished third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.71 before finishing fourth in the pole vault (10-6).
Peter also competed in the 200 meter dash, where he finished 11th with a time of 25.41 seconds. He acheived 13th place in the long jump event with a jump of 16-6.25.
Brodey Cattanach’s best finish of the day came in the triple jump for 13th place with a jump of 31 feet, five and a quarter inches. He also ran the 800 meters in 2:33.15 for 15th place. Tucker Cattanach finished fourth in the triple jump with a jump of 37-3.75 and tied for 10th in the high jump with a jump of five feet exactly.
