Greene softball shuts down Oxford in MAC playoffs

GREENE – After picking up a close win against Oxford during the regular season, the Greene Trojans softball team didn’t waste any time as they won 15-0 with solid pitching and great hitting all-around the lineup. Greene finished sixth with Oxford in seventh in the MAC softball standings.

After a scoreless first inning, Greene picked up seven runs in the bottom of the second inning to take control. Three errors brought in two runs before the bats were strong with five consecutive hits. Kenzie Button singled and scored on an RBI by Nadia Brown. Brown scored on Claire Flanagan’s single before Ahraya Whitt brought in two with a double. Audra Doll brought in a run on a single.

Rhea Malmquist led the bottom of the third inning off with a hard hit ball to center field and went to third before being waved home by a misplay getting the ball in by the defense. Kenzie Button walked and stole second and third, which Greene stole 15 bases on the day. Button scored off an error and Flanagan drove in her second run of the day with a groundout play.
