Norwich Track defeats Windsor in dual meet

WINDSOR – Coming off the REK Invite, the Norwich Purple Tornado track and field team traveled to Windsor in a league dual meet on Tuesday. Norwich came away with the overall team win with the girls’ earning the 84-12 victory and the boys’, who won the REK last weekend, won 79-41.
Girls:
Reagan Decker kicked off the girls’ meet with a first place finish in the 100 meter hurdles with a new personal best time of 20.40 seconds. She also finished second in the triple jump with a jump of 28 feet, five inches behind teammate’s Emma Urgo’s top 31-7. Decker took third in the long jump (13-0.75) behind Urgo and Josey Ryan. Urgo earned the victory in the high jump with a jump of four feet, eight inches.
Josey Ryan took both wins in the 100 meter dash and the 200 meter dash. She ran the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.59 seconds and the 200 meter dash with a time of 29.61 seconds. Brynley Ryan finished second in the 100 meter dash with a new best time of 13.67 as Layla Root came in third place (14.14).
Brynley earned the top finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:12.15. Root achieved first place in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 1:30.09 as Kyra Brunick-Davis earned first in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:50.30.
Lara Tefft won both of her throwing events, including a top and new best throw of 91 feet, 10 inches in the discus. Olivia Palmer finished second with a throw of 86-4. Layla Root took third in the shot put event with a throw of 17 feet, one inch.
Boys:
Caden Sutton picked up two individual top finishes in the 800 meter and 1600 meter run to lead the Norwich boys’ team. Caden achieved a new personal best time of 2:06.63 in the 800 meter run and ran the 1600 meters in 5:39. Nic Sutton finished second in the 1600 meter dash (5:41) as Pat Mulwane took third (5:43.92). Nic also finished second in both the 800 meter run and in the 3200 meter run as Mulwane finished third in the same event. Orren Doolittle took third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:47.
Connor Marshall earned a first place finish in the 400 meter hurdles and took second in the 110 m hurdles with a time of 18.45 seconds behind Windsor’s 17.04. Spencer Root won the 100 meter dash, coming in ahead of Windsor’s 11.95 with a time of 11.69 seconds. Cameron Carnachan finished second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.75 seconds, a new personal best.
In the fielding events, Drew Westervelt came in first for the shot put and finished third in discus. Westervelt earned a new best throw of 114 feet, four inches in the discus throw behind teammates Jack Barnes (126-11) and Gabe Blenis (118-11).
Lucas Craddock swept all three jumps. He jumped six feet, four inches for the high jump victory and jumped 21-2 in the long jump with Kaiden Vidler behind him in second (17-5). Craddock jumped 43 feet, three inches in the triple jump with Vidler in second with a jump of 35-5.
Norwich competes in the Oneonta Invitational this afternoon, starting at 4:30 p.m.
