Local track teams compete in Oneonta Invitational

ONEONTA – On Friday, all local Chenango County track and field teams competed in the Oneonta Invitational. Oneonta swept both sides of the leaderboards as the Unadilla Valley girls’ team came in sixth, Bainbridge-Guilford in eighth, Norwich in 14th, and Oxford/Greene girls’ in 15th. The Norwich boys’ took third while Oxford/Greene finished sixth, UV in ninth, and B-G in 12th place.
UV:
Girls:
The Unadilla Valley Storm girls’ team continues to shine as the 4x800 team came in first place and there were solid finishes all around. Addison Marinelli, Molly Gorrell, Madison Dix, and Natalya Schrag ran the 4x800 in a top 10:51.34. The girls continue to hold the school record in this event. Dix went on to place third in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:02.67 as Gracie Gorrell won the event in 1:01.22. Molly Gorrell took eighth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:44.81.
Jaiden Schrag was just short of two top finishes in both the 100 meter hurdles and in the long jump. She earned second place in both events. She completed the 100 meter hurdles in 15.97 seconds, behind Cobleskill-Richmondville’s 15.93. Schrag jumped a second place jump of 15 feet, five and 3/4 inches. Kalie Fernandez-Naughton finished seventh in the long jump with a jump of 14-8 and finished 16th in the shot put (25-7.25). Noelle Fernandez-Naughton set a new best time in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:21.72 for ninth place. She also came in 12th place in the triple jump with a jump of 26 feet, one inch.
Boys:
The Unadilla Valley boys had a few individuals achieve new personal records in their respective events. Junior Jacob Prentice led the team with a first place finish in the pole vault event, a second place finish in the 200 meter dash, and a third place finish in the 100 meter dash. Prentice extended his school record in the pole vault with a new mark of 11 feet, six inches. He ran the 200 meter dash in 23.85 seconds, behind Norwich’s Richard Fuller, and finished the 100 meter dash in 11.96 seconds.
Haywood Edwards came in sixth place in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 20.03 as Ben Kemnah set a new best time of 5:14.36 in the 1600 meter run. Kemnah finished 12th in his event with teammate Aidan James in 18th (5:47.97).
Denzel Peter set a new personal best in the long jump with a jump of 17 feet, seven inches for 12th place. He also finished 14th in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.54 seconds and took 15th in the 200 meter dash (26.15).
B-G:
Girls:
The Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats girls’ track and field team picked up 25 team points with four girls making the top six and others just short, but still coming away with solid performances. Maddie Ingham, Laila Williams, and Keelan Ammon led the team with second place finishes in their individual events.
Ingham ran the 400 meter dash in a new best time of 1:01.98, behind UV’s Gorrell as Williams set a new personal best time of 2:36.47 in the 800 meter run, behind Cooperstown’s 2:24.42. Ammon took second in the pole vault with a mark of six feet, behind Delhi’s 7-0.
Ruth Wilson finished sixth in the 3000 meter run with a time of 15:23.87 as Lalaenia Baldwin and Vanessa Brazee both competed in the 2000 meter steeplechase. Baldwin achieved a new best time of 9:04.16 for seventh place as Brazee ran a new best 9:27.35 for 10th place.
Carly Finch came in 10th place in the high jump event with a jump of three feet, nine inches and set a new best time of 20.07 in the 100 meter hurdles for 16th place. Tori Suda rounded out the day with a nine place finish in the shot put event with a throw of 27-8.25.
Boys:
The Bobcats boys’ team earned 11 points in 12th place, but had quite a few gentleman show off in their prominent events. Harpo Hardt led the team with a fourth place finish in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.66 and came in sixth in the triple jump with a jump of 37 feet, nine and 3/4 inches. Hardt wrapped up his day with a 17th place finish in the 100 meter dash with teammate Noah Janinda in 21st place.
Kevin Lang took fifth in the 200 meter dash with Anthony Graham in 19th place. Lang finished sixth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 54.88 seconds. Brock Porter finished eighth in the 800 meter run, where the junior achieved a new best time of 2:15.62. Easton Porter came in 13th place for the 1600 meter run (5:15.10) as Julian Pruskowski finished seventh in the 400 meter dash.
Pruskowski also finished fourth in the triple jump with a jump of 38 feet, seven and a half inches. Teammate Jaeden Walling competed in the high jump with a jump of four feet, six inches for 17th place. Kyle Patton finished 11th in the pole vault event with a mark of eight feet.
Norwich:
Girls:
The Norwich Purple Tornado girls’ track and field team started out strong in the team relays with a third place finish in the 4x100. Layla Root, Josey Ryan, Brynley Ryan, and Emma Urgo finished the event in 54.09 seconds before competing in their own individual events. Brynley and Josey both ran in the 100 meter dash, where Brynley finished sixth with a new best time of 13.71 seconds with Josey behind in seventh (13.84). Urgo competed in both the triple and long jumps. She finished sixth in the triple with a jump of 31-8.50 while jumping 13 feet, 11 inches in the long jump for 13th place. Reagan Decker finished 14th in the same long jump event with a jump of 13 feet, eight inches.
Annie Boland came in ninth for the 2000 meter steeplechase, which Norwich hopes to have next year with their updated track. She finished with a time of 9:18.56. McKenzie Hagenbuch earned a new best time of 2:46.90 in the 800 meter run for 11th place. Olivia Palmer finished off the day with a fourth place finish in the discus with a throw of 88 feet, nine inches.
Boys:
The Norwich boys took third place behind STAC competitors Oneonta and Chenango Valley and earned 56 team points. Lucas Craddock swept all jump victories with a 6-4 top jump in the high jump, a 21-6 for the long jump victory, and a jump of 45-2 for the triple jump. Kaiden Vidler finished 10th in the triple jump with a jump of 35 feet, seven inches and took 15th in the long jump (16-11).
Aside from great jumping from Craddock, Richard Fuller took two victories in his respective sprinting events. Fuller set a new personal best in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.90 seconds. He ran the 400 meter dash in a top 50.88 seconds. Cameron Carnachan came in 13th for the 200 meter dash with his new best time of 25.71 seconds.
Caden Sutton ran the 800 meter run in a new best 2:04.59 for third place as Nic Sutton finished 17th. Nic also ran the 1600 meters in 5:14.23 for 11th place. Jack Barnes finished eighth in the discus with a throw of 106 feet, seven inches.
OX/GR:
Girls:
The Oxford/Greene girls picked up 11 points in the meet with Lyla Biefeldt, Kayla Knapp, Kayla Swift, and Justina Parsons leading the team. Biefeldt took the top finish in the discus throw with a throw of 104 feet, eight inches and finished sixth in the shot put with a throw of 29 feet, one inch.
Knapp and Swift both competed in the 200 meter dash, where Knapp finished 15th with a time of 30.39 and Swift 22nd in 32.39 seconds. Parsons finished eighth in the high jump with a jump of four feet.
Boys:
The Oxford/Greene boys’ team continues to stand out with many talented runners building a strong team aspect. The boys started out with two second place finishes in the team relays. A team of Aiden Amin, Keegan Waltz, Lazarus Ludolph, and Gordon Smith took second in the 4x400 with a time of 3:48.10 behind Oneonta’s 3:37.54. A team of Amin, Smith, Eddie Golden, and Aiden Ives finished second with a time of 8:58.93 in the 4x800 behind Oneonta’s 8:56.78. Amin, Smith, Golden, Waltz, and Ludolph all went off to compete in their individual events, where they strived with top 10 finishes or better.
Amin finished seventh in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:15.21 as Golden and Smith both competed in the 1600 meter run. Smith, who holds the school record, finished fourth with a time of 4:44.30 as Golden came in 15th (5:23.10). Anthony Bourn earned a new best time of 11:25.45 for fourth place in the 3200 meter run as Vic Richette finished sixth in the 200 meter dash.
Ludolph and Waltz both competed in the 400 meter dash, where Waltz took fifth with a new best time of 54.75 and Ludolph finished ninth (55.97). Waltz also finished ninth in the long jump with a jump of 18 feet, six inches. Braeden Goerlich came in eighth place in the 100 meter dash (12.33) as Jacob Eroshevich followed in ninth place (12.36).
Urijah Dibble finished seventh in the discus throw with a new best throw of 109 feet, eight inches and threw 35-7.50 in the shot put event for 12th place.
B-G, UV, and Oxford/Greene will be competing in Sidney on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m while Norwich has the STAC Championships at Johnson City on the same day, starting at 4 p.m. Full results can be found at ny.milesplit.com.
